Brides Who Wear Glasses

Brides Can Rock Their Glasses

One of the questions I get asked most often by brides who wear glasses is: “Will my glasses ruin my makeup or my wedding photos?”
The answer is absolutely not.
If wearing your glasses is how you feel most comfortable, and you don’t get on with contact lenses, then you should 100% wear them on your wedding day. Your glasses won’t ruin your photos because they are part of your everyday look and they’re part of you. If you’re worried about how they might photograph, speak to your photographer. They will be more than happy to reassure you and talk through any concerns.

Makeup Tips for Brides Who Wear Glasses

When it comes to makeup, this is where I can really help. There are lots of professional tips and tricks to ensure your makeup looks beautiful and works perfectly with your glasses.
Brighten and Correct the Under-Eye Area
One of the most important steps is making sure your under-eyes are well colour-corrected and concealed. Glasses can cast a shadow over an area that is already prone to darkness, so brightening this area helps keep the face looking fresh and awake.
Makeup Where Glasses Sit on the Skin
Where your glasses sit on your skin, you have two options:
  • Use less product in these areas if your glasses will stay on all day, as they will cover them anyway.
  • If you plan to take your glasses off at any point, use the bake technique with powder to help prevent the glasses from wearing through your makeup.

Eye Shape and Vision Type

Far-sighted glasses can magnify the eyes, whereas near-sighted glasses can make the eyes appear smaller. If your glasses make your eyes look smaller, avoid closing them down further by applying dark liner to the waterline. Keeping the eye makeup brighter will help your eyes appear more open and visible.

Eye Makeup Tips That Work Behind Frames

There are plenty of ways to help your eyes stand out behind your frames:
  1. Choose reflective eyeshadows rather than glitter, which can look too harsh.
  2. Make sure your eyeshadow is blended well, as it will be on show.
  3. Check that your eyeliner is even with no gaps. A softly smoked liner often looks better than a very bold line, which can appear stark behind glasses.
  4. Opt for a volumising mascara rather than a lengthening one, and curl your lashes well to avoid them hitting your lenses. Make sure it isn’t clumpy, as this will be magnified. Remember, mascara typically isn’t very effective after around three months of daily use as it dries out.
  5. Use individual lashes to add thickness rather than length, helping to frame the eyes. Alternatively, a half strip lash at the outer corners works beautifully.
  6. nude liner in the waterline will brighten the eyes and distract from any redness.
  7. Add a small pop of highlighter in the inner corner of the eye (where the eye meets the nose) to make the eyes appear brighter and more defined.

Brows, Blush and Lips

Make sure your brows are well groomed and tinted if they need more colour or to disguise any grey hairs. Brows are very visible when wearing glasses and make a huge difference to both your makeup and overall appearance. Avoid plucking them on your wedding day, as redness can show up in photos. Instead, fill in any gaps with a good brow pencil.
Apply your blush with your glasses on, tapping it from the frame towards the ear. Avoid placing it too close to the nose. This helps you gauge exactly where the blush should sit to bring the whole look together.
A confident lip colour can also help balance the face but only if it’s something you normally feel comfortable wearing. If bold lips aren’t your usual choice, try wearing a slightly brighter shade in the lead-up to your wedding so you can get used to the look.

Enjoy Being You

Most importantly, enjoy your wedding day and don’t worry about your glasses. They are part of what makes you you, and brides who wear glasses look just as stunning, confident and beautiful as any other bride.
