40 Something and Clinging Onto This Decade by My Fingernails

Although I have managed this decade better than others, I’m not looking forward to hitting the next big ‘0’.
So, it’s me! the face behind the makeup. Always the makeup artist, never the bride… and that’s ok.
Single Life, Choices & Figuring It Out
Having not always been the best judge of character when it comes to men, I have made peace with my single girl lifestyle and I actually love it.
I’m not saying I would turn down a potential love match, but I’m also not actively seeking it, so it’s going to have to be a chance encounter. Does this actually happen outside of a rom com?
You may or may not know I’ve never had children (which is always a controversial subject when it comes to mums who can’t help but question why you wouldn’t want that little bundle of joy), I mean I don’t question why you had children!
But, if you must know, just refer back to the bad choices of men then that’s your answer as to why and then I ran out of time.
At this point in my life, when I am peri menopausal, constantly tired, always forgetting things (I would forget what I had done with said child), plus have you seen all my travel plans, I wouldn’t be able to do both.
Perimenopause, HRT & Getting Through It
HRT is my saviour. If it’s something you’re thinking of, go to your doctors armed with your symptoms; even the ones you think aren’t related. They likely are.
I went through a stage of wanting to drive my car into a tree. I couldn’t tell you why, I just felt that down. So low and with zero energy I felt lost.
Now I feel I can take on the world again.
Work, Passion & Doing What I Love
I’ve always been lucky enough when it comes to work that I love my job. I always wanted to work in this industry and have been able to.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not just fallen in my lap, I work really hard for it. I never really stop working. I think that happens a lot when you run your own business; it’s hard to switch off.
I laugh every day at work. I have the most amazing clients and it makes me happy to do this work.
Being part of someone’s wedding day and making them feel like their best self is a priceless feeling. Also, with my beauty work, making people feel relaxed and pampered, there aren’t many jobs that have an effect like this.
Mindset & Looking Forward
I try never to regret the things I have done and the choices I made. Ultimately, it’s made me who I am today.
There is no point focusing on the past, you can’t change it and it’s no good focusing on the negative stuff.
I’m desperate to not end up a grumpy old lady, moaning about should have, could have, would haves.
I love celebrating other women and their achievements, and because of this I have the most wonderful industry friends. We are not in competition with each other, just supporting and being each other’s biggest cheerleaders.
Meet Ruby 🐾
If you know me, you know about Ruby. She lights up my life and many other people’s too.
The most sassy Yorkshire Terrier. She’s quite well known around Woodbridge where we live, always after cuddles and treats and flirting with men.
A complete diva, where walking is always optional. She is living her best life at my expense. One of us has private medical insurance and it’s not me.
I wouldn’t change her for anything. Life would be dull without her… but cheaper.
