Clean Girl Makeup Is Done? I’m Not Convinced.

“Clean girl makeup is done. Maxi makeup is back.”
I hate headlines like this. Why do we do it? What if I still love clean girl makeup? Does this suddenly mean I’m no longer going to be accepted in society if I prefer a fresh, minimal look?
Makeup trends don’t need to cancel each other out and honestly, they shouldn’t.
Bold Beauty Is Back (And I’m Here for It)
Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup in all its forms. The fact that colour is making a comeback genuinely excites me. I’m a little bored of every new trend being named after a drink you could order in Costa, but that’s just me. As much as I love a dramatic shift in makeup trends, I also understand that it’s not for everyone.
And that’s okay.
Makeup as Self-Expression
So yes, bold beauty is back, and I’m riding that train. Makeup is such an easy, powerful way to express creativity and individuality. It can be whatever you want it to be. You can even be a completely different version of yourself from one day to the next.
I always tell my clients that makeup can be armour something that helps you walk into any situation feeling confident and empowered.
Clean Girl vs Colour: It’s Not a Competition
Clean girl makeup can feel quite monotone. While that’s absolutely a vibe in its own right, colour is back and you shouldn’t be afraid to use it.
This is where my philosophy comes in: Maxi make up where you can. Not because you have to, but because it’s fun, expressive, and unapologetic.
Your Face Is the Canvas
Think Glaminatrix (my favourite hand-pressed glitters from Australia), NARS, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and of course the royalty of the colourful makeup industry: MAC!
Go wild with your eyeshadow.
Turn up the intensity of your blusher.
Add a bold pop of colour to your lips.
Your face is your canvas… use it. OTT glamour is back, baby, and I couldn’t be happier.
Maxi Make Up Where You Can, But Only If You Want To
That said, if minimal, dewy skin with a swipe of lip gloss is your vibe and it’s convenient, easy, and makes you feel good, then you do you. That’s just as valid.
I’m sure there are makeup artists panicking at these “trend shift” headlines because they’ve only just mastered clean girl looks and now feel the tides turning. But the truth is, clean girl vibes will always be there. Just like goth, glam, or grunge, it’s not for all of us, but it all brings inspiration.
And that’s the beauty of makeup: nothing ever really disappears. It just evolves.
