Never Stop Learning: My Journey as a Makeup Artist

I will never stop learning. I will never stop attending masterclasses, following video tutorials, having training days, and doing content days. All of this makes me a better makeup artist and enhances the skills I bring to you.
A Masterclass with Johnny T
On a Sunday in July, I caught the train to London to attend a masterclass with the amazing Johnny T. This event was arranged by one of the girls from Vibe Education, a platform I belong to that not only supports my work but also provides valuable training opportunities.
The masterclass was held at the Hilton Hotel, conveniently located near Liverpool Street, meaning I didn’t have to walk far. Before the class started, I met up with the other five girls attending. The weather was lovely, so we sat outside the hotel, and I treated myself to the most amazing croissant—filled with chocolate inside and dipped in chocolate on the outside. It was absolutely fabulous, and I decided the calories didn’t count because I was in London!
Learning from a Master
Johnny showcased two different looks during the session:
-
A glamorous, colourful look – Perfect for bold, statement-making makeup.
-
A natural wedding look – Initially subtle but evolved into a more glamorous style with glitter (because what makeup artist doesn’t love glitter?).
Johnny was incredible. He shared a wealth of knowledge and welcomed all our questions. He is probably the most honest makeup artist I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching work. No question was left unanswered—he encouraged us to ask anything and was completely transparent with his advice and product recommendations.
What I initially thought would be a quick two-hour session ended up lasting about five hours. He truly gave us his all, and it was an unforgettable experience.
The Perks of Continuous Learning
At the end of the masterclass, we received an amazing gift bag filled with products. This was a fantastic opportunity to try out:
-
New brands I hadn’t used before
-
Products I hadn’t even heard of
-
Fresh ideas and techniques to incorporate into my work
I always leave experiences like this with a renewed sense of purpose, eager to experiment with new products and techniques. I firmly believe that continuing education is essential in the beauty industry.
Why Ongoing Education is Essential
The makeup industry has evolved so much over the years. Products change, new techniques emerge, and the sheer amount of makeup available is overwhelming. If you don’t keep learning, you get left behind. This is why I am committed to always improving my skills—so I can bring the very best to my clients.
Attending masterclasses like this not only enhances my expertise but also keeps me inspired. I can’t wait to put everything I’ve learned into practice!
