And if you still can\u2019t quite figure out what you need, come and see me for a quick tutorial and try of products.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h4><b>Why Foundation Changes as We Age<\/b><\/h4>\n<div>Learning how to apply foundation to <span class=\"markk22j57hc7\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">mature<\/span> skin is like starting all over again, what you thought you knew suddenly doesn\u2019t work.<\/div>\n<div>If your usual products aren\u2019t delivering the results you used to love, then it\u2019s definitely time for a change. As we age, our skin changes, so it makes sense that this also means we need to change our makeup routine and the products we use.<\/div>\n<div>There are also now so many beautiful products that not only give you youthful coverage, they also give you skincare as well.<\/div>\n<div>The frustration I find when doing makeup lessons is my clients feeling like their current foundation is making them feel older, as it often highlights what you want to hide. The first one is that as we age, our skin is going to crave hydration, nothing heavy or that\u2019s going to be drying or too matte on your skin.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h4><b>What to look for:<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul data-end=\"2049\" data-start=\"1811\">\n<li>Liquid formulas over powder-based products<\/li>\n<li>Light to medium coverage that is buildable<\/li>\n<li>Words like <i>satin<\/i>, <i>radiant<\/i>, or <i>water-based<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides (stimulate collagen\/elastin), and niacinamide<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><b>What to avoid:<\/b><\/div>\n<ul data-end=\"2155\" data-start=\"2074\">\n<li>Matte foundations, as they will settle into fine lines and look less youthful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>If you really can\u2019t live without a powder foundation, look for a baked one, which will likely have creamy pigments locked in.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2880 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193-1366x2048.jpg 1366w, https:\/\/www.victoriabradfield.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Foundation-for-Mature-Skin-scaled-e1778491867193.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>Application Techniques<\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>1. Moisturise<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Always start with a clean, well-hydrated face, so make your skin prep a really important part of your makeup routine.<\/div>\n<div>Use a serum, then a good hydrating moisturiser to plump the skin. This is always going to help you look better, feel better, and help your makeup sit well on the skin.<\/div>\n<div>If you have a lot of dryness, add an emollient, but only to the areas where you are seeing dryness. You don\u2019t want to overdo it. Let it absorb fully, otherwise it will create slip.<\/div>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>2. Prime<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Some people skip this step, but I think adding a primer is a really important step.<\/div>\n<div>It creates a barrier between skin and makeup, stopping the skin pulling moisture out of your foundation and leaving it looking dry and patchy.<\/div>\n<div><i>(Makeup doesn\u2019t go patchy, skin absorbs the moisture from the product, leaving the dry ingredients behind.)<\/i><\/div>\n<div>It also stops foundation sinking into lines and gives you longer-wearing makeup.<\/div>\n<ul data-end=\"3370\" data-start=\"3254\">\n<li>Use a hydrating primer on dull, dehydrated areas<\/li>\n<li>Use a smoothing or blurring primer on pores or deeper lines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>3. Foundation<\/b><\/div>\n<div>I don\u2019t really recommend using your fingers, as when I watch people do this they tend to move the product around too much and not really get the coverage where it\u2019s needed.<\/div>\n<div>Start with a brush using light buffing movements. Then I would always encourage you to take a damp beauty sponge and bounce the product into the skin.<\/div>\n<div>This will:<\/div>\n<ul data-end=\"3844\" data-start=\"3735\">\n<li>Push the product in properly<\/li>\n<li>Stop it sitting in lines<\/li>\n<li>Allow you to add coverage only where needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Don\u2019t apply in heavy layers, build your coverage gradually where it\u2019s needed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>4. Powder<\/b><\/div>\n<div>I would avoid this as much as possible.<\/div>\n<div>If you do need to use powder, choose a very finely milled translucent loose powder and only apply it to areas where your face moves the most.<\/div>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>5.
